The Street
New Street forms the main access into the development
linking Greenbank Road to The Square and the existing
converted factory buildings beyond.
Two flat blocks positioned either side of the main entrance
off Greenbank Road create a gateway into the site and
onto New Street.
New street is intended to be a Home Zone play street
where pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles share the space
on equal terms. The Home Zone acts to slow down the
speed of traffic with a narrowing road and strategically positioned
planters and trees enabling the residents to play
or socialise in the Home Zone during the day or evening.
A pocket park has been positioned between the end of
the Terrace Houses and the Flats providing a natural
interactive amenity space with a centrally located play
sculpture surrounded by a copse or orchard.
Planters with trees are located outside of the Cycle Houses
which will be maintained by the residents and create an
informal pathway along the front of the houses and street.
