Energy strategy

“to deliver affordable, secure, energy supply whilst minimising the impact of the development on the global environment”

The aspiration of the energy strategy is to:

1. Use less energy
The building envelope and internal specifications of the redeveloped and new buildings will reduce the energy demand across the site by ~10-15% reduction.

2. Use clean energy
The proposed development will make use of 3 linked energy centres providing heat, hot water and power through a community heating system to deliver the heat and hot water demand and generate on-site electricity to offset mains gird-supply to the site. This will not only reduce grid transmission losses but improve the efficiency of the generation of electricity for the scheme and thus reduce associated CO2 emissions by ~ 25%.

3. Use renewable energy
Integrating suitable renewable energy technologies into the energy mix of the site must support and enhance the centralised community system, with a target of offsetting >10% CO2 emissions from renewables.
